Two-faced Phra Rod, green bronze, Phayao temple

.
In the Lanna region, there is an ancient city, Phayao Province. This ancient city has been the site of numerous excavations and relics, collectively known as the Phayao Kru Buddha. Archaeologists have speculated that the Phayao Kru Buddha was built around the 17th - 18th Buddhist centuries.
.
One of the Phra Kru Phayao amulets discovered here has a model that has a distinctive Buddhist characteristic, namely: Phra Rod amulet print But what is considered unique is that the Buddha image is created with the Buddha image on two sides, or two faces. In the amulet circle, this model of Phra Rod is called the "two-faced Phra Rod." It is made of green bronze, and some also call it "Chin Uthumphon."

.
The Buddha image is in the Mara-Vijaya posture, seated on a "Khing" base under a "Bodhi Khit" arch. If you look closely, the facial features are similar to those of the "Lamphun" Phra Rod, but it is assumed that this two-faced Phra Rod was created later than the "Lamphun" Phra Rod, around the 12th Buddhist century, as Lamphun and Phayao are both in the northern region, and may have been influenced by it.
.
*There is a rumour that this Phra Kru Phayao amulet was discovered when the government was renovating and building a superhighway over 50 years ago.

The distinctive characteristic of the "Phra Rod Song-Faced Kru Phayao" is the presence of a dull yellowish-white wax, small round lumps scattered across both sides of the Buddha image. This characteristic is known in the circle of amulet collectors as "rust, crab eggs." The characteristics of the green lead alloy, or Utumporn lead alloy, are shiny, juicy, and vary in shades of black, gray, brown, dark, and light. The closer you look at it, the more captivating it becomes. And what is absolutely essential is that every amulet must have a clear "black spot" to be considered a complete amulet made from green lead alloy.

.
*Black birthmark or Black pandanus

.
It is a black rust stain that will appear on the surface of the green bronze Buddha amulet in the parts that have been touched by hands or human flesh, or exposed to moisture and sweat, until the white and yellow wax comes off. The bronze will create black spots. When the Buddha amulet is bruised, black spots will be seen on the surface of the amulet.
.
Phra Rod Song Na, Kru Phayao, is considered one of the Bej Phak amulets made of green alloy. It is believed to have outstanding Buddhist virtues in terms of escaping danger and being free from all dangers. It is charming and popular. The older generation and older gangsters have given the thumbs up that Phra Rod Song Na, made of green alloy, is truly "tough" and is a great protection against danger.
