Luang Pu Nak, a powerful monk from Thonburi

Luang Pu Nak Sumannako (Phra Phimontham) was born on January 3, 2415 at Bang Phun Village, Pathum Thani Province. His father's name was Mr. Nuan and his mother's name was Mrs. Luean. He began studying Dharma since he was young. At the age of 12, he was ordained as a novice at Wat Sarapat Chang with Phra Athikarn Huang Thammachoti as his preceptor. He took the first examination in the Year of the Tiger, 2433, and passed the 4th level of the Buddhist scriptures examination. Later, in 2435, at the age of 20, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Suthat with Somdej Phra Wanarat (Daeng Silwattano) as his preceptor. He received the religious name: "Sumannako"

He was a monk who was determined to study the Dhamma until he was proficient. He passed the 4th level of the Pali examination in 2433, the 6th level in 2437, and the 7th level in 2441. With his knowledge, ability, and excellent morality, Luang Pu Nak was continuously appointed with ecclesiastical ranks until in 2482, he was appointed Phra Phimontham and held the position of abbot of Wat Arun Ratchawararam. On June 22, 2453, Luang Pu Nak received a royal warrant appointing him as the abbot of Chumphon Province.

Luang Pu Nak, the wise monk of Wat Chaeng (Wat Arun Ratchawararam), one of the great monks of the early Rattanakosin era, who possessed strong Buddhist magic, initiated the creation of the famous tiger-forehead skin amulet “Sangkang Namami”, a legendary amulet that is constantly talked about.

He was a former abbot who brought prosperity to Wat Arun and made great contributions to Buddhism, to the point that he was known to Buddhists all over the country. Luang Pu Nak passed away on July 14, 2488. Aged 72 years, 192 days, 54 years of monkhood.
